Addiction Recovery
Center
When looking at an addiction recovery center, you should do
your due diligence to ensure the facility will be a good one
for you. Common
questions to ask include: Will you be able to get any
individual attention, What is the ratio of ”present” staff to
patients, How strict is security to keep people from bringing
drugs onto the facility, What is the treatment center’s
treatment philosophy, What type of plan would my own addiction
dictate using, What is their long term success rate and others
like these. The
goal here is to make sure you feel as comfortable with the
setting as possible.
Developing a trust and comfort level with the staff and doctors
is important in helping ensure you get proper
treatment. If you
feel a certain addiction recovery center, will be inadequate in
some ways, you should continue to research others until you
find one that is satisfactory. Choosing the right facility
from the start can save you a great deal of time and
money. In
addition, it will increase the odds you will have a successful
treatment.
Once the right addiction recovery center is chosen, most
treatment programs follow a standardized process that is
similar to the following:
1. The first step
is usually have a discussion with a rehab
counselor.
Some centers may even allow patients to bypass using a
counselor by filling out an online assessment form
instead. The
aim of this step is to get an initial assessment of what
treatment will be best for the specific
patient.
They will review the patient’s medical history, drug or
alcohol use, severity of drug addiction, and other
factors to develop an appropriate plan for the
patient.
2. The patient
will enter a drug or alcohol detox program where they will be
kept away from drugs and alcohol. The patients will experience
withdrawal symptoms during this time. The main goal here is allow
the body some time to adjust without the drugs or alcohol and
show the patient they can survive without their
use. The
general time period ranges from several days to a few
weeks depending on the individual patient.
3. After the detox
program is complete, the patient enters a drug treatment
program. Here, the
patient is taught how to deal with their
addiction.
The staff will normally have the patient confront their
feelings and drug problems. They will also discuss
bad situations to avoid and what can be done to create a
positive environment to reduce the risk of
relapse. The
length of time these programs take will vary. However, many experts
believe the best results come from those that offer at
least 3 months of supervised care.
4. After the
patient is released from the drug treatment program, there is
usually some form of a periodic follow-up
program.
Sometimes this will take the form of counseling sessions
or it could be that the patients are given actual course
work to complete.
We hope this information helps give you a starting point from
which to consider different addiction recovery
centers.
